Compositions

In their compositions, Bas strives to write music for the people they know and love, taking inspiration from a musician or ensembles favourite pieces to play or listen to, but also from their personality and Bas’ relationship to them. Bas’ music takes influence from minimalism, and contemporary choral music from around Australia and the world, with favourite composers including Ivo Antognini, Sally Whitwell, Joseph Twist, and Tõnu Kõrvits.

Bas’ works have been performed by Allegri Ensemble, the Hedberg Ensemble, and the Secret Orchestral Society, and they have been commissioned by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, VOX Collective and Festival of Voices. Bas is represented by TSO Publishing, as well as selling their music independently, and has been named Oriana Chorale's 2026 Emerging Composer in Residence.​
